MailControl Encryption - How it Works:
MailControl Encryption uses the standards-based TLS protocol
to encrypt a communications tunnel either direct to an organization's
mail network or to an encrypted mail quarantine for individuals.
Enterprise-to-enterprise encryption
Enterprise-to-enterprise encryption allows organizations to create
encryption communities and enforce encrypted e-mail to specified
domains. It uses a standard technology platform called TLS (Transport
Layer Security) to establish a secure, encrypted tunnel between
an organization's mail server, a SurfControl data-center, and the
recipient's mail server. If an end-to-end TLS session cannot be
created then a message is bounced back to the sender with a non-delivery
notification. It is never delivered 'in-the-clear'.

Enterprise-to-individual encryption
Enterprise-to-individual encryption allows ad-hoc encrypted e-mails
to be sent to recipients who are outside an organization’s TLS-based
encryption policy. To send an ad-hoc encrypted e-mail, users simply
specify a pre-defined trigger in the subject heading or select the
‘private’ function on their e-mail client. The e-mail is then saved
into an encrypted quarantine store from where the recipient can
access the e-mail over a secure, Web-based connection using a password
or code supplied, out of band, by the sender. This removes the requirement
for complex key management and exchanges.
